About Us

Who we are

The Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam was founded by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) in 1889 who proclaimed to be the Promised Messiah of the latter days. Since its inception, the community has strived tirelessly to present the true interpretation of Islam – the message of peace; uniting communities with the motto of “Love for All Hatred for None”. The community advocates peace, tolerance, love, and understanding among followers of different faiths.

The community has its humble beginnings in Qadian, a remote village in India, and today the community is busy serving mankind in over 200 countries of the world. The UK chapter of the Ahmadiyya Movement was established in 1913 and is one of the oldest Muslim communities in the UK; and in 1926 built the first mosque in London, known today as the London Mosque.

Helping the less fortunate, the community has opened more than 500 schools & colleges; over 30 hospitals, dispensaries, and hospices in the poorest regions of the world which serve all, irrespective of their ability to pay.

Until the early 1970s, there was virtually no regular, organized, or formally established Majlis Ansarullah in the Nigeria Branch of the Ahmadiyya Jama’at.  However, the elders of the Jama’at were, from the very inception, actively participated in all the activities of the Jama’at, doing these purely as members of the Jama’at and not as members of  Majlis Ansarullah.  Later, when many of those who were active in Majlis Khuddam attained the age of forty, the stage became set for the establishment of Majlis Ansarullah.

The formal establishment of Majlis Ansarullah, in Nigeria, actually took place in December 1973, during the Annual Conference.  At that time, it was the then Amir, Maulana M. A. Shahid, who assembled the elders of the Jama’at present at that conference and addressed them on the need for forming Majlis Ansarullah.  This they started, almost immediately, and elected Alhaji Abubakar Idogbe Kukoyi as their Zaeem-i-Ala (National Leader).  From then on, Majlis Ansarullah has been in operation in different local branches of the Jama’at.  They have also organized various interesting programmes, to cater to their members’ physical, social and spiritual development.
