MAAN Free Medical Outreach in Abeokuta.
More than 1,000 people benefited from a two-day free medical outreach organised by Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyya Nigeria as part of activities marking its 50th Annual Ijtema, with 1,171 patients attended to during the programme held on August 19 and 20, 2026, at Iberekodo General Hospital, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The outreach provided a range of free healthcare services, including medical consultations, laboratory investigations, blood pressure checks, malaria testing, fasting blood sugar tests, eye screening, dispensing of prescribed medications and eyeglasses, and health and nutrition counselling. Speaking at the opening of the outreach, the Sadr (National President) Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyya Nigeria, Alhaji Dauda Raji, who represented the Amir (National Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Alhaji Alatoye Folorunsho Azeez, urged beneficiaries to remain patient and orderly, assuring them that they would all receive the necessary attention. He said initiatives that directly address the needs of society remain an important part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s contribution to humanity, adding that the organisation considers service to humanity an essential expression of its faith. The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Health, Dr. AbdulLateef Lawal, commended the initiative, describing the decision to mark the organisation’s Golden Jubilee by investing in the health and wellbeing of the community as a demonstration of faith in action. He noted that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community had continued to demonstrate that religious leadership extends beyond worship to active service to humanity, adding that efforts to bridge healthcare gaps remain essential to the wellbeing of society. Dr. Lawal also highlighted the value of holding the outreach in a public healthcare facility, noting that such collaboration complements government efforts to expand access to healthcare, promote early detection and management of health conditions, and reduce the financial burden of medical care. Also speaking, Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, appreciated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for the initiative and its contribution to the wellbeing of residents. During the outreach, beneficiaries received medical attention for various conditions, including malaria, hypertension, diabetes, peptic ulcer disease, back pain, arthritis and headaches, as well as cough and other ailments. The eye-care component also provided visual acuity screening, with 450 people registered for eye screening and 120 beneficiaries receiving free eyeglasses. Medical consultations were conducted by nine doctors, including three consultants, while eight medical laboratory scientists provided laboratory services. Seven pharmacists and two pharmacy technicians supported the dispensing of medications, with approximately 98 per cent of prescribed drugs dispensed free of charge to beneficiaries. The outreach was supported by a team of 71 personnel comprising doctors, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, medical laboratory scientists, nurses, volunteers and security personnel. The two-day initiative formed part of the broader welfare and humanitarian activities of the 50th Annual Majlis Ansarullah Ijtema – OLÚMỌ 2026, held under the theme, “Faith-Based Solutions to Global Challenges.”
