The Amir (National Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alhaji Alatoye Folorunsho Azeez, has described religion as an avenue for peace, urging people to return to the fundamental teachings of faith by serving God, doing good to humanity and staying away from evil.
Alhaji Azeez made the remarks on Friday, August 21, 2026, when he led a delegation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, including the Sadr (National President) Majlis Ansarullah Nigeria, Alhaji Dauda Abiola Raji, on a courtesy visit to the management of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta.
The Amir appreciated OGTV for its longstanding support and coverage of the Jama’at, particularly for providing a platform through which the community has been able to share its views with the public on critical issues.
Speaking on the 50th Annual Majlis Ansarullah Ijtema, themed “Faith-Based Solutions to Global Challenges,” Alhaji Azeez said the theme reflects the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at’s conviction that religion, when properly understood and practised, provides solutions to many of the challenges confronting humanity.
He noted that religion is often misunderstood, stressing that the actions of individuals should not be used to judge the true teachings of faith. According to him, religion is fundamentally about worshipping God, doing good and refraining from evil.
The Amir further explained that all prophets were sent by God to guide humanity, describing religion as one in its fundamental purpose of guiding people towards God and righteous living. He described the Holy Qur’an as a complete code of life intended to guide humanity in its affairs.
He also emphasised the unity of humanity, noting that people have been created in different tribes and communities for identification and mutual understanding, while righteousness remains the true measure of a person’s worth.
Alhaji Azeez further cited the peace efforts of the worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, including his engagements with world leaders, as evidence of the community’s continued advocacy for peace. He noted that while religion promotes peace, it is the actions of human beings that often create conflict and disrupt harmony.
Reflecting on the philosophy of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, he said the community’s motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None,” reflects its commitment to mercy, compassion and peaceful coexistence.
Also speaking, the Sadr, Alhaji Dauda Raji, highlighted the community’s humanitarian activities, noting that a free medical outreach organised as part of the pre-Ijtema activities at the General Hospital, Iberekodo, had recorded more than 1,000 beneficiaries.
He described the outreach and other welfare initiatives of the Jama’at as practical expressions of the true teachings of Islam and the organisation’s commitment to serving humanity.
Responding, the Assistant General Manager, who represented the General Manager of OGTV, Mr. Biodun Alabi, affirmed the station’s longstanding commitment to providing fair coverage to organisations and communities since its establishment in 1981.
He pledged continued support for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at and encouraged the organisation to bring more of its programmes and activities to the station for wider public engagement.
