“Caring for the Sick, Orphans Is Our Collective Duty,” CAN Chairman Tells Ahmadiyya
The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun State Chapter, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Emmanuel Oludaisi Adekunle, has described caring for the sick, orphans and vulnerable members of society as a collective responsibility, while urging the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at to sustain its welfare initiatives.
Rt. Rev. Adekunle made the remarks on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, when he received the Sadr (National President) Majlis Ansarullah Ahmadiyya Nigeria, Alhaji Dauda Abiola Raji, and his entourage during a courtesy visit.
The CAN Chairman said he was pleased with what he heard about the Jama’at’s various welfare activities, noting that such initiatives present a positive image of what Islam stands for.
He particularly commended the organisation’s efforts in caring for the sick and supporting orphans, describing such acts of service as a collective responsibility. He urged the community to continue its efforts while encouraging others to embrace similar commitments to serving humanity.
He further called on people to make spending in the way of God a regular practice by helping those in need, rather than waiting until they are approached for assistance.
The CAN Chairman said he was challenged by the welfare initiatives highlighted during the visit and expressed his desire to do more in the area of service to humanity. He appreciated the delegation for the visit and prayed for the success of the 50th Annual Majlis Ansarullah Ijtema.
He also confirmed his attendance at the Ijtema symposium scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Alake Arcade, Abeokuta.
Earlier in his remarks, Alhaji Raji briefed the CAN Chairman on the activities of the Golden Jubilee Ijtema, including the ongoing free medical outreach, the various auxiliary bodies of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at and the theme of the gathering, “Faith-Based Solutions to Global Challenges.”
The Sadr also highlighted the humanitarian work of Humanity First Nigeria, including its support for cataract surgeries and care for orphans, while explaining that the Jama’at’s welfare activities are part of its commitment to serving humanity.
He further spoke on the moral teachings of Islam, stressing that true Islam is reflected in good character and that acts such as kidnapping, stealing and other social vices are contrary to Islamic teachings.
